Herman van Rossum said… - Hoi Arco. Het is alweer 3 maanden geleden dat ik je mailde vanuit Malaysia. Dat was echt de moeite waar. Veel gezien en heel veel gegeten, er wonen daar verschillende bevolkings groepen met allemaal hun eigen keuken maar wij vonden de Indiaase keuken het beste. Wat we dit jaar doen weet ik nog niet, misschien een camper huren en door Europa toeren, vrienden bezoeken of Indonesia waar ik in mijn eerste jeugd nog zo'n 6 jaar gewoond heb, kijken of ik nog iets van Surabaja herken , Bali en wat andere eilanden bezoeken. Het is hier koud vandaag,22*C, dat heb ik in de 2 jaar dat ik in Nha Trang ben, nog niet meegemaakt. Maar ik heb vanmorgen een paar winter foto's uit Oss ontvangen, nou, voor mij hoeft dat niet meer. Dat is ook een van de redenen dat ik nu hier zit. Er zijn wel een paar andere dingen die ik uit Holland mis, maar ik kan me niet bedenken wat.
Uit de mail van Fabia maak ik op dat je pas jarig bent geweest, proficiat alsnog. Van Kerst en oud en nieuw heb ik hier niet veel gemerkt, maar Vietnamees nieuwjaar staat voor de deur, 26-01, en daar leeft iedereen naar toe en is de gebeurtenis van het jaar. Veel mensen hebben dan een week vrij, is meestal ook de enigste vacantie, en dan wordt er veel gegeten en gedronken. Dan zijn ook de straten vol met motorfietsen en bussen. Als je beseft dat het verkeer nu al een puinhoop is ken je je misschien voorstellen hoe het er dan uitziet. Je kunt je dan beter met de benenwagen verplaatsen want de bussen zijn altijd al overvol.
